St. Louis Capen Connection members are still re-ordering priorities in order to attend this mushrooming gathering of the century. Just this morning (Monday, April 28) we learned that Chris Bitting re-engineered his tight schedule to be on hand. Way to go Chris!! Same to Christy and Peter Sorensen and Will Foster!!

The senior Capen drives to Masters through 4 inch snow storm.

Our very own, intrepid, Marj Sheldon hit the road at 6 a.m. Thursday morning to take in the 1997 playing of The Masters in a brief break from her role as senior advisor to the Capen Connection Reunion Committee. Word has it that Arnold Palmer made the ticket arrangements as he is desperate to get some pointers from Marj. Others say he is really just angling for an invitation to lunch and golf at the Log on May 10th.  /;-)

Marian Clifford accompanied her mother to Augusta, but was expected to get little driving time. After a quick visit with Claire Capen Foster Evans, Marian's sister - with some time-out for admiring Reece Evans, Marj's 25 day old great grand-daughter - they are due back in St. Louis no later than Tuesday. Before leaving, Marj suggested that the reunion committee needs to swing into high gear with just one month to  C - Day. "All Capen's should keep their web browsers at the ready, their computers warmed up, and tune in frequently to our wonderful web site to keep abreast of our plans," she said the evening before leaving.

BACK TO REUNION MATTERS

Attendance now indicated by the webmaster to exceed 100 much to the astonishment of all.

Those who may be unsuccessful in their attempts to get to St. Louis are urged to send to Marian Clifford recent snapshots of yourself and family. Drop us a line - or an email - to let us know where you'll be on May 10. We'll miss you!!

NEW: dateline, St. Louis - Mon 4/28 Negotiations have been opened with McDonnell Douglas to have several F-15 Eagles standing by to whisk any Capen Connection members to St. Louis who find, at the last minute, they can make it.

"We're very excited about the prospect of having McDonnell F-15 Eagles on hand to serve any Capen Connection members who discover on May 10 that they can make it," Marj Sheldon told reunion committee members at a special meeting held Sunday. "McDonnell assures me they can get anyone here in 3 hours of us alerting them. I hope anyone who has any inkling they may be able soar with the Eagles will let me know, so that I can help McDonnell coordinate their efforts to help all of us."

"We want everybody here," Marj said. "Both TWA and Southwest are considering $50 specials for any Capen Connection member who would like to be here, so all Capens are urged to call me or my daughter, Marian, so we can work out arrangements with TWA or Southwest. We can probably work with the other airlines as well."

Remember our goal - and keep in mind we Capens have never failed in this on century reunion meeting days - is that each St. Louis Capen Connection member, either in flesh, spirit, photograph, letter or e-mail, be in St. Louis no later than sundown.

Reunion plans for Saturday, May 10:

A letter to all was mailed Tuesday, April 1, 1997, or as quickly thereafter as we could come up with addresses.

It's not too late to order your Capen Polo shirt - great momento of this wonderful occasion!
Call Marian Clifford if you have any questions on the shirt.

We're expecting!    /;-)   Three more ...oops, make that FOUR more connections - June, July & two in August! Great summer for the senior Capen - Marjorie Capen Foster Sheldon - who will be a great grandmother for the 7th and 8th times!

Let's see. That's two more great, great, great grandchildren for George Dunn Capen from the Charles Pond Capen's and two from the George Henry Capen's. The Samuel Davis Capen's must be holding out on us. Could we have a break through coming from this intrepid bunch - to the SEVENTH generation? Stay tuned! /;-)

Eleanor Reece Evans, born March 17, 1997. "Reece" and mother, Carolyn Killian Evans, thriving.
Congratulations Carolyn, and to the proud papa, Ray, of the Charles Pond Capen family. This latest addition to the Capen Connection is Marjorie Capen Foster Sheldon's 6th great grandchild! And we would be sadly remiss not to mention the charming, Claire Capen Foster Evans, the joyful grandmother, who along with her husband, Marshall, now has three grandchildren.
